Gender dynamics cannot be ignored in storytelling. In some communities, gender norms dictate who is most visible and able to make their voices heard, and often penalise those who do not conform to established roles.
In storytelling, consent is a key consideration. The people we feature in our stories, those we tell stories about, those whose images we use, whose statements and perspectives frame the story.
There is great power in amplifying the voices of people with disabilities, acknowledging that they are highly visible and full persons, despite what societies may say.
